Sound Check · asynchronous · $25

Two minutes of your English. An honest answer about it.

You’ve been told your English is “very good” for years, which tells you nothing. Record the passage below and I’ll tell you precisely which sounds are giving you away, why, and what to do about each one.

How it works

No appointment. No timezone maths. This is deliberately asynchronous — you record whenever suits you, and I reply whenever suits me. Nobody has to be awake at the same time.

Four steps

Record it once. I do the rest.

Record

Read the passage below out loud, once, at your natural speed. Your phone’s voice recorder is perfectly good enough.

Send & pay

Upload it anywhere shareable, send me the link, and pay the $25. Takes about three minutes.

I listen properly

Not skimmed. I go through it twice and note every pattern, not just the obvious slips.

You get a video

Five to ten minutes, just for you: your three biggest issues, why each happens, and exactly how to fix them.

The passage

Every sound I need to hear, in 90 seconds.

This isn’t a random paragraph. Every sentence is here to expose a specific thing — the sounds that most often give away a non-native speaker.

I thought the weather here was terrible, but I was wrong — the three months I’ve spent working in this city have completely changed my mind.

My colleagues asked whether I’d walked or driven, and I realised I’d forgotten to answer. It’s the sort of thing that happens when you’re tired.

She said she’d rather live near the beach than in the middle of the world’s busiest square, and honestly, I agree with her.

We should have arranged it earlier. Now we’ll probably have to wait until Thursday, which is a bit of a nuisance.

Read it once, normally. Don’t practise it first — I need to hear how you actually speak, not how well you can rehearse.

What you get back

Specific enough to act on tomorrow.

  • Your three biggest issues, ranked. Not fifteen things you can’t remember — the three that would change how you sound the most.
  • Why each one happens.Usually it’s a sound that doesn’t exist in your first language, and knowing that makes it far less frustrating.
  • The fix, demonstrated.Where to put your tongue, what to listen for, and me saying it slowly so you can copy it.
  • What’s already good. Most people are much better than they think, and being told what to stop worrying about is worth something too.

Send it over

Two steps and you’re done.

Fill this in, then pay. I’ll have your video back within 48 hours — usually much sooner.

Then pay, and I’ll get started: Pay $25 →

If your recording turns out to be unusable — too quiet, too much background noise — I’ll tell you and refund you rather than guess.
